Lessons from Covid-19
HFL June Newsletter “If there's a thing I've learned in my life it's to not be afraid of the responsibility that comes with caring for other people. What we do for love: those things endure. Even if the people you do them for don't” Cassandra Clare Author I feel like it has been forever since my last newsletter. You would think with all the “extra time” I could have been sending two newsletters out a month! Instead I feel as if the weeks and months in isolation have been busy. When I analyze what has been going on here, I realize that it has been about what is important. In the beginning we had many plans to “keep busy”. The 2000-piece puzzle had its place at the start as a distraction for those of us trying to process what this isolation involves. After the sorting and border building was completed, we plugged away for a few more weeks and in the end, we realized 2000 pieces is a lot! Geo caching, although seems very cool and something we would do all the time, (and may be now that trails are open) we have not done it yet! We did stick with the paperless toilet paper and bought a second bidet for the upstairs toilet. Love to protect the environment where we can. In the end we realized working on our relationships within our home has been the number one priority. We have connected in a way that sets us up for a future closeness that will never change. After spending many days and hours together when two of the girls are heading to their dads, I hear the four of them saying “I will miss you” as they are parting. The hugs, long conversations, tears, and belly laughs are times we will cherish forever. The strong bond the girls have formed with each other gives me security in knowing that no matter what happens to us they will always be there for each other. . Whether you are in a home with five people or on your own, developing a strong relationship with others and/or yourself, is what will make this world move forward in a more positive way. The most basic of needs is connection. I try to conduct myself in a way that helps others. The best feeling is when I do something just because it feels right and is coming from a place of love. My family has taught me what is most important and where are energy should be spent. I have the best family and being with them makes my heart soar. The warmth I feel when we rally around each other to bring a smile to someone’s face, wipe a tear, be there to listen, or give someone a hug not only lifts their spirit but also your own and is the best feeling around. Thank you, covid-19, for encouraging our family to spend quality time together and get to know each other on a much deeper level. It could not have come at a more opportune time as the girls are getting older and soon will be off to post secondary school and away from our nest. We know we can weather any storm because we will do it together. Sending love from our family to everyone out there. Xo Family favourite recipe for keeping your body healthy.
